Is counting important? Yes, counting is foundational to later math development. In order to develop a strong understanding of quantity, and eventually how to manipulate quantities (like adding, subtracting, or fair-sharing) children need an abundance of counting experiences. Why is it important to teach children to count? Teaching children to count involves more than helping them learn the numbers one to ten. It involves helping children understand the meaning of numbers.
By learning to write when they are young, preschoolers are being set up for success as they grow. Studies have shown that writing by hand improves information retention, from college students taking notes for a class to older adults writing down personal notes to keep their minds sharp.
